What is this system

A narrative dungeon crawl in reverse. Instead of climbing toward treasure — a descent into the Heart, a living underground megadungeon that responds to desires and fears. Each class has a unique story arc: from Zenith (entry) to Nadir (finale). Characters literally progress through a narrative arc.

Setting

Beneath the city of Spire beats the Heart — an inconceivable space that warps reality. Markets of bone, libraries of dreams, forests of flesh. The deeper you descend, the more insane the world — and you — become.

What it looks like at the table
You're at the Bone Market, third tier of the Heart. A merchant sells memories in glass vials. Roll d10 — 7, partial success. You get the map you need, but take stress on the Echo track. Three marks out of five. One more — and the Heart takes your voice. Forever. Your Zenith: 'Find the way back.' Your Nadir: 'Forget why you came.'

Key mechanics

5 stress tracks

Blood, Mind, Echo, Fortune, Supplies. Each is a path to doom or transformation. You choose where stress goes.

Zenith to Nadir

Every class has an arc from entry to finale. You know where the story goes. The question is — at what cost.

Living dungeon

The Heart is a creature, not a place. It shifts, reacts, creates spaces from your fears.

Narrative first

Rolls don't decide 'hit or miss' but 'what price do you pay.' Fiction drives the mechanics.

What people say
Heart is the most creative RPG I've ever read. A market made of bones where memories are currency? A forest of meat that grows from the walls? It's Annihilation meets Dark Souls.— u/deep_delver, r/rpg
The Zenith/Nadir character arc system means every character has a built-in ending. My player's final session was the most emotionally intense RP moment I've ever witnessed.— u/spire_citizen, r/HeartRPG
