"Wizards of Mythic Europe, where legend is literally true."
Ars Magica casts you as powerful wizards in Mythic Europe — a 13th-century world where medieval myth is real. Its celebrated magic pairs five Techniques (verbs) with ten Forms (nouns), letting you improvise almost any effect. Play is troupe-style: everyone runs a magus, plus the companions and common grogs who defend the covenant. Sagas unfold across seasons, with characters studying, inventing spells, and growing over decades. Deep, literary, and unlike anything else in the hobby.
Mythic Europe is our own 1220s reimagined so legend is real: faeries haunt the forests, angels and demons wage the Divine and Infernal war, dragons sleep beneath mountains, and the Order of Hermes hides its covenants from a Church that burns witches. You play the reclusive magi who wield true power — and the mundane folk caught in their orbit.
Techniques & Forms
Five Techniques (Creo, Intellego, Muto, Perdo, Rego) combine with ten Forms like Ignem or Corpus. Pair a verb and a noun to improvise nearly any magical effect on the fly.
Troupe Play
Nobody owns one hero. Each player runs a mighty magus, versatile companions, and expendable grogs, and the storyguide role can pass around the table between sessions.
Covenant & Saga
Your covenant is a shared home, library, and legacy. Campaigns are sagas spanning years, and the whole troupe builds and defends this living institution together.
Seasons in the Lab
Time advances in seasons. Between adventures, magi retreat to their laboratories to invent spells, enchant items, extract raw magic (vis), and slowly master their Arts.
