What is this system

Star Trek Adventures is Modiphius's official RPG of the Star Trek universe, on the 2d20 System. You play a Starfleet crew — captain, science, engineering, tactical. The emphasis is exploration, diplomacy, and moral dilemmas in the spirit of the shows, not shootouts. The 2nd edition (2024) polished the system into clean 'Trek feel.'

Setting

The galaxy of Star Trek: the United Federation of Planets, Starfleet, the Prime Directive. Klingons, Romulans, the Borg, and uncharted space. The tone is optimistic science fiction — problems solved with intellect, empathy, and science more often than a phaser. From the TOS era to TNG and beyond.

What it looks like at the table
The bridge. An unknown ship won't answer hails. The captain orders a scan: a Reason + Science test — roll 2d20, each die under the target scores a success. You need 2, you roll 1. The officer spends Momentum from the shared pool — another d20, another success. Sensors light up: the ship is full of a spore-based life form. Now — what does the Prime Directive say about that?

Key mechanics

The 2d20 engine

A test: roll 2d20; each die under your Attribute+Discipline total is a success. The successes required set the difficulty. Buy extra dice with Momentum or by taking risks.

Momentum & Threat

Successes beyond the requirement bank into a shared Momentum pool the whole crew spends on bonuses. The GM has a mirror Threat pool for complications. A shared economy of drama.

Values & Determination

A hero has Values — beliefs in the vein of Trek monologues. Acting on (or against) them earns Determination for heroic feats when it matters most.

The starship as a character

The ship is a full 'character' with its own stats and system damage. Space combat is teamwork — everyone at their station shapes the outcome.
