"Seize the tools of an absent God and rewrite the world."
Godbound casts players as nascent gods in a broken world abandoned by its Creator. It runs on a familiar OSR chassis — roll a d20 to hit, make saves, watch your Armor Class — but layers on divine scale: attacks deal fixed straight damage that shreds mortal armies, Words of Creation grant world-bending Gifts, and committed Effort powers miracles. Between fights, Dominion lets your deeds permanently reshape kingdoms, rewrite the Facts of reality, and steer whole factions across the campaign map.
The default world of Arcem is a fallen realm of decaying wonders and uncertain natural law, left leaderless when its God vanished and the tools of creation slipped free. Ruined empires, warring theocracies, and scheming celestials fill the gaps. Into this you rise as a Godbound: a mortal suddenly graced with a shard of divine authority, free to save the world, rule it, or burn it down.
d20 Attacks, Straight Damage
Combat keeps the OSR feel: roll a d20 against a foe's Armor Class. But divine attacks deal fixed straight damage instead of dice, letting one god carve through whole mortal armies.
Words of Creation
Each Godbound wields Words like Fire, Sword, Time, or Death. Words grant Gifts — signature powers — and let you improvise miracles by bending their domain to your will.
Effort
Effort is your well of divine energy. You commit it to sustain Gifts, shrug off failed saves, and pour it into miracles, then recover it when the scene or day ends.
Dominion
Beyond battle, spend Dominion to reshape the world: found kingdoms, rewrite the Facts of reality, and swing entire factions, so your legend leaves permanent marks on the map.
