What is this system

Curseborne is Onyx Path's urban horror and fantasy game. It runs on Storypath Ultra, the generic version of the Storypath system. The project was funded on Kickstarter in 2024. The core rulebook has been on sale at DriveThruRPG since late 2025, with 31 kinds of Accursed across five Lineages and the full rules.

Setting

A modern world where curses are so common that people have learned to live beside them. City streets, decaying neighbourhoods and ancient shadows are woven into one pattern. Players investigate strange events, face monsters and decide what they are willing to pay for help.

What it looks like at the table
A child goes missing in an old district overnight, and the neighbours act as if nothing happened. You start investigating: you question people, look for traces and count how much you can take. The Storyteller asks for a Storypath Ultra pool, and every success brings you closer to the truth while every failure brings you closer to a new curse.

Key mechanics

Storypath Ultra

Pools of d10 are built from a skill and an attribute. The game rests on the same foundation as other Storypath lines, in its generic form.

Investigation and intrigue

Much of the game is about investigation and social pressure, not only combat. Conversations and searching for clues matter as much as fights.

Lineages

Five Lineages of the Accursed: Hungry, Primal, Sorcerers, Outcasts and Dead, with Families inside them. Each player picks which of the two matters more to their character.

Everyday horror

The horror is domestic: monsters and curses are built into familiar urban landscapes, and every use of power has a rising cost.
