What is this system

A space opera with Arab-Persian aesthetics. The group owns a spaceship and travels the Third Horizon — a cluster of star systems. Trade, smuggling, diplomacy, exploration — and the Darkness Between the Stars, which seeps into reality through prayers to the Icons.

Setting

The Third Horizon — dozens of star systems connected by portals. Bazaars on orbital stations, mosques next to docks, ancient portals of unknown origin. Factions range from religious orders to megacorporations. The atmosphere — Firefly meets One Thousand and One Nights.

What it looks like at the table
Your ship enters the Kua system. Customs demands an inspection — there's contraband in the hold. Manipulation roll: 5 dice, no sixes. 'I pray to the Icon of the Judge,' you say. Reroll — two sixes, success! But the GM gains a Darkness Point. Later, in a dark station corridor, the lights flicker. Something whispers your name. The Darkness remembers.

Key mechanics

Praying to the Icons

Need to reroll? Pray to the Icons. But the Darkness gains an influence point. Every prayer is a deal with the unknown.

Your ship

The ship is the campaign's center. Modules, debts, crew, reputation. It's your home in cold space.

Factions

Dozens of factions with overlapping interests. Every decision shifts the balance of power in the sector.

The Darkness

The Darkness Between the Stars is a metaphysical threat. The more you invoke the Icons, the stronger it grows.

What people say
Coriolis has the most unique sci-fi setting I've ever played in. It's not Star Wars, it's not Star Trek, it's something completely its own. The Arabic/Persian aesthetic makes everything feel fresh.— u/third_horizon, r/rpg
The Darkness mechanic is so elegant. Players WANT to pray for rerolls, but they know every prayer makes the GM's job easier. It creates constant, beautiful tension.— u/icon_seeker, r/FreeLeague
